My Slim :)

Who doesn’t love a good Bonnie & Clyde story? With Daniel Kaluuya? I sure don't, which is why when I heard this movie was coming out I knew I had to see it and it's really just something about him!

I am sure that they got so many people to the movie theaters for Thanksgiving! I had the pleasure of watching it on opening night with a few friends. This was one of the most current black love movies that I feel actually depicted the way our society is now with a little touch of old school as well.

The film premiered in November of 2019 the first date between Slim (Daniel Kaluuya), and Queen (Jodie-Turner Smith). When they first met it wasn’t exactly love at a first sight like the traditional love story. Their personalities were polar opposites and towards the end of the date both of them made it clear they weren’t going to meet again but would stick it out.

The date went left because they were stopped by the police on the way from leaving the diner for just a minor traffic violation. In the heat of the moment, Slim gets the officer's gun and kills him in self-defense while everything was being caught on camera. They run because they figure they have no other option but to find refugees elsewhere. Even with the primal evidence that their actions were completely in self-defense the police still labeled them as criminals, murderers, and evil.

I loved how we were able to see their journey on the run. Across the country, people became familiar with their faces and embodies the pain, and suffering, black people have been facing. This movie was a symbol of the acknowledgment of how black love has been found to stem from trauma. The time they spent together running from the police showcased fear and passion.

I hated the fact that it ended the way it did, however, it IS a Bonnie & Clyde story with a twist.

One of the last scenes was of him carrying her body to the plane while bullets pierced through his entire body. I feel like that scene embodies the fight between black man and woman because even in the end love was the only thing that allowed them to grow as people and accept their fate.

P.S. I will be sitting front row and center at every film starring MR. Kaluuya.
